About

  • Ever wished museum hieroglyphs could speak back to you?
    “The Lost Language”
    is an immersive XR experience that lets users interact, write, listen, and learn the foundations of Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics in a magical and intuitive way✨
  • This Demo was developed in just 2 weeks for XRCC 2025
    (actually 1st week I had my exams so most work done in only 1 week)
  • Had Great time working with Mostafa Hemeida, a talented 3D modeller / VR develoer

Key Features

  • Hand Tracking Writing System with custom ink shader and accurate pen writing to mimic the feeling of writing with ink on papyrus
  • Magic Swipe Translation using the Hand Gesture feature in Meta SDK, swipe on aper to reveal translation or swipe over "cartouche" to hear pronunciation
  • Ancient Tablet acts as Hieroglyphic keyboard that pronounce each letter as it spawns to help better understand the different sounds
  • Immersive Magical Atmosphere custom VFX, shaders, lighting and sound to make learning feel mystical

  • Unity and Meta SDK
  • custom VR interactions and hand gestures
  • SO architecture to define relations between different hieroglyphs, words and transliteration
  • Complex System for Hieroglyhpic translation & Grouping built from scratch and was a good challenge to test my skills

Challenges

  • Designing a dynamic system that understand heiroglyph direction, stacking, resizing, grouping and reading logic
  • Learning Hieroglyphic fundamentals in just 2 weeks to design meaningful mechanics
  • Creating engagging and accurate hand tracking interactions
  • Filming our first ever cinematic trailer acting + shooting + editing in very limited

Proud Of

  • Delivering a polished submission despite massive pivots and unexpected challenges
  • How much we learned about Ancient Egyptian Language and culture
  • Building a robust backend system that most users never see but everything relies on
  • small visual touches: shaders, lighting, particles, that made the world feel alive
